The FBI on Thursday released photos of a person of interest tied to the killing of popular conservative activist Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University.
The images show a man dressed in a black, long-sleeve shirt and dark pants, a dark-colored hat, and sunglasses.
The person is of “college age,” authorities revealed during a press conference Thursday morning.
Authorities declined to offer additional details about the person besides his age.
The person entered the campus at 11:52 a.m., about half an hour before Kirk was shot. Video from campus shows the shooter climbing to the roof of a building overlooking the event. The assassin jumped from the building and fled to a nearby neighborhood after the shooting.
That footage will not be released.
A “bolt action high-powered rifle” used in the shooting has been recovered in a wooded area near campus, where he fled. It will be examined closely and analyzed, the FBI said.
The shooter’s whereabouts are currently unknown.
“We are not sure how far he has gone,” Bohls added about the assassin.
Authorities said they are confident they will be able to identify the shooter.
Investigators questioned and released two people in connection with the shooting on Wednesday.
Kirk was a political activist and founder of conservative organization Turning Point USA. He was well-known for holding campus debates with college students on various hot-button issues. He was 31 years old.
