A session of the European Parliament took a turn when Danish MEP Anders Vistisen delivered a blunt, profanity-laced message to President Donald Trump. Vistisen, representing the right-wing Patriots for Europe group, used his time at the lectern to reject the President’s renewed interest in the sale or acquisition of Greenland.
Vistisen reminded the chamber that Greenland has been an integrated part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years.
He described the pitch to acquire the territory as an “unacceptable attack on national sovereignty,” arguing that Greenland is strictly not for sale.
Vistisen told Trump he would use “words you might understand” before explicitly telling the President to “f**k off”.
The outburst led to an immediate and timely intervention by European Parliament Vice President Nicolae Ștefănuță:
Anders Vistisen: Let me put this in words you might understand: Mr. President, f**k off.
Chair: I’m sorry, colleague, this is against our rules. As much as you might feel, or the room might feel in this, we have clear rules about cuss words, language that is inappropriate in this room. I’m sorry to interrupt you, but it is unacceptable even if you might have strong political feelings about this.
