🥰Whoopi Goldberg had to step in and stop The View audience after Jennifer Lopez’s surprise appearance sparked an unending standing ovation. As the crowd kept cheering, Whoopi stood up, laughing but firm, shouting, “Alright, stop! Sit down before she thinks she’s at Madison Square Garden!” Lopez, blushing, tried to calm the crowd as Whoopi joked, “This isn’t a concert — it’s daytime TV!” The hilarious exchange quickly went viral, with fans praising Whoopi’s no-nonsense charm and J.Lo’s gracious reaction. One fan wrote, “Only Whoopi could shut down applause and still make it iconic.” Classic View chaos — live.

  • Whoopi Goldberg had to wrangle the excited crowd on The View.
  • “Stop!” Goldberg exclaimed as she stood up from her seat to subdue the cheers.
  • Jennifer Lopez told Goldberg to ease up because the audience represented her hometown of New York City.

Whoopi Goldberg just endured 72 seconds of pure, unfiltered hell at The View‘s Hot Topics table.

After famously collapsing in March over a Jennifer Lopez-related topic at the very table she was forced to stand up at on Tuesday morning, the Oscar-winning Ghost actress welcomed Lopez to join the cohosts for an interview pegged to the latter’s new movie, Kiss of the Spider-Woman.

As the actress and singer made her way to the cohosts at the table, the audience cheered — as the crowd typically does for celebrity guests.

But, it quickly became clear that Goldberg was going to have to spring into action to quiet them down, as they kept applauding — and even stood up — as Lopez took her seat next to the panelists.

Losing control of her attendees, Goldberg sensed danger when chants of “J.Lo, J.Lo, J.Lo” clapped through the show’s airspace, with Goldberg ringing her iconic Hot Topics bell multiple times in an attempt to contain the spread of enthusiasm through the risers.

“Hey, y’all, this is only an hour show,” Goldberg said, eventually standing up to confront the collective wall of hands smashing together.

“Stop!” the 69-year-old shouted, her own hands rising up beside her. “This is only an hour show!”

“Whoopi, it’s my hometown!” Lopez said to Goldberg’s back, as the actress was still out of her seat as she worked toward corralling the audience.

“But, this is our gig and we want to talk to you so badly,” Goldberg told Lopez with a smile, before the audience finally settled in to listen to Lopez speak about her new musical movie venture.

The View has a long history of guests receiving sustained standing ovations — and Goldberg attempting to shush rowdy audience members.

Just last week, Goldberg had to calm the rowdy studio audience for their uproarious applause in support of interview guest Zohran Mamdani.

When it comes to ovations, RuPaul’s Drag Race host RuPaul famously received a sustained reception at the show in March 2024, which clocked in 14 seconds longer than the one President Barack Obama received for his appearance back on season 13.
