⤵️New Congressional Resolution Condemning the Slaughter of Christians in Nigeria

After years of sounding the alarm here at the ACLJ, there is real momentum in Washington, D.C., to stop the murder of Christians in Nigeria.

Just days ago, President Donald Trump issued a powerful Truth Social post announcing that Nigeria would be named a Country of Particular Concern and urging Congressman Riley Moore (WV-2) to take the lead on this critical human rights issue. Congressman Moore has now introduced a new resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives condemning the systematic slaughter of Christians.

By redesignating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, the Trump Administration has multiple avenues to put pressure on the Nigerian government to take real action. Rep. Moore’s resolution rallies Congress to support the Trump Administration’s decisive action to confront what has become an existential threat to Christians in Nigeria.

Over 7,000 Christians have already been killed this year alone – an average of 35 per day. Since 2009, more than 19,000 churches have been attacked or wiped out. These aren’t random acts of violence. This is a systematic effort to eliminate Christianity from regions of the country.

In the resolution, Rep. Moore lays out a sobering case outlining coordinated attacks on holy days, state-sponsored denial of religious persecution, and continued enforcement of blasphemy laws punishable by death. It notes that the Biden Administration’s 2021 decision to remove Nigeria from the CPC list coincided with a dramatic increase in violence and persecution. From the 2022 Pentecost Massacre to the Christmas Eve killings in 2023 and the Holy Week slaughters of 2025, the evidence is undeniable. What’s happening in Nigeria is religious cleansing.

The ACLJ has long been at the forefront of fighting on this issue. However, a new partnership between CPAC, the ACLJ, and other like-minded organizations signals that a broad coalition is committed to confronting religious persecution globally. At the recent CPAC summit on religious persecution in Washington, which was co-hosted by the ACLJ, Rep. Moore gave an impassioned address calling on America to rise to the occasion.

“We’re at an inflection point and we must act.” Rep. Moore declared. “We must ask ourselves how long will Christians be martyred in silence while Washington looks the other way? And I say no more!”

Rep. Moore’s resolution is another vital step to lend Congressional support. It underscores the need for moral clarity in foreign policy and the courage to call evil by its name.

This isn’t about politics. It’s about life and death and standing up for those who cannot stand for themselves. The ACLJ will continue to fight alongside President Trump and leaders in Congress until these atrocities in Nigeria stop. Take a stand for persecuted Christians alongside us.
